Skin Rejuvenation

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is an effective treatment for instantly refreshing your skin’s tone and texture, helping you achieve a clearer, smoother complexion. With regular sessions, it can visibly enhance skin clarity, refine texture, and support long-term skin health. It also helps prevent breakouts and boosts the absorption and effectiveness of your at-home skincare products.

At our Gold Coast skin clinic, we understand and appreciate the uniqueness of each face, as well as the individual aesthetic aspirations of our clients. Our team consists of highly qualified and experienced dermal therapists, each dedicated to delivering exceptional care. Before any skin procedure, we offer a complimentary consultation to understand your concerns, evaluate the suitability of the treatment, and tailor our approach to align with your individual aesthetic goals.

How It Works

Dead skin particles can cause clogged pores and sit in fine lines, making your skin appear dull, tired, and lined. Microdermabrasion assists the skin’s natural shedding process by removing the buildup of particles, leaving skin smoother, brighter, and firmer.

Microdermabrasion exfoliates the top epidermal layer of the skin using a handheld device containing micro-crystals. This device gently resurfaces the skin by shedding dead cells and stimulating new ones.

Microdermabrasion treatment can be used to exfoliate the face, neck and décolletage.

What Concerns Can Be Treated With Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion can help improve the appearance of a range of skin concerns, including:

Your Consultation

Before your skin treatment, you will have a thorough consultation to assess your skin, discuss the effects of microdermabrasion in further detail, create a personalised treatment plan, and clarify your preparation instructions.

Your consultation will begin with a discussion about your skin concerns and goals. You can express any specific issues you want to address, such as uneven skin texture, acne scars, or fine lines. Your dermal therapist may ask relevant questions to comprehensively understand your skin’s condition.

Our team members will perform a thorough analysis of your skin. This may involve examining your skin type, texture, elasticity, tone, and any existing skin conditions. They may also use specialised tools to better understand your skin’s unique needs and highlight areas that could benefit from focused care.

You will be asked about your medical history, including any allergies, previous treatments, or existing skin conditions. It is important to disclose any medications you are taking or any recent procedures you have undergone. We may also inquire about your lifestyle habits, such as sun exposure, smoking, or skincare routines, to better understand how these factors may impact your skin health and to tailor your aftercare instructions to your needs.

We will explain the microdermabrasion procedure, its benefits, and how it works so that you will know what to expect. Based on the assessment of your skin and your specific concerns, we will provide you with realistic expectations for the microdermabrasion treatment. We’ll explain the improvements you can anticipate and also inform you of any potential side effects or downtime associated with the procedure.

Considering your skin analysis, concerns, and expectations, we will develop a personalised treatment plan for you. We’ll discuss the recommended number of sessions, the intervals between treatments, and any complementary or additional treatments that may enhance the results.

We recommend avoiding exfoliating treatments and active skincare products, such as acids or retinoids for 3 to 5 days prior to your session.

Microdermabrasion is not suitable for sunburnt skin, open wounds, or if you’re currently using medications that affect skin sensitivity or healing. Please let your therapist know if you’ve had any recent skin, laser, or injectable treatments in the past two weeks.

The Results

Microdermabrasion is a low-impact treatment with no required downtime. Most people resume their normal routine immediately after the session. Some temporary redness may occur, but this typically resolves within a few hours.

Mild dryness or tightness can occur following exfoliation. In some cases, breakout-prone skin may experience a temporary increase in congestion as impurities are lifted.

Microdermabrasion is often recommended as a first-step treatment or as part of an ongoing skin maintenance plan. Results such as smoother skin and improved texture may be noticeable within a few days.

More About Microdermabrasion in Brisbane

Frequently Asked Questions

Microdermabrasion is one of the most accessible skin treatments available, making it a great entry point for those new to professional skin care. At Esteem Clinic, pricing starts at $67.

During your complimentary consultation, our team can recommend whether microdermabrasion is the right starting point for you or if a more advanced treatment may better suit your skin goals.

Like all skin treatments, microdermabrasion carries some potential risks and side effects. These can include:

Skin irritation: Temporary redness, sensitivity, or irritation.

• Dryness and tightness: Some dryness and tightness in the treated skin. Mild flaking can occur due to the stimulation of cell turnover

• Increased sun sensitivity: Your skin may become more sensitive to sunlight, so it is important to use sun protection.

• Bruising: Rare but possible, especially with more aggressive treatment or if you’re prone to bruising.

Infection: A slight risk, but extremely rare if the area is kept clean.

• Allergic reactions: Possible reactions to products used during or after the procedure, so inform your therapist of any known allergies.

Skin discolouration: Very rare, but it may occur, particularly in individuals with darker skin tones.

The key to minimising these risks is following the preparation and aftercare instructions provided. These risks will be discussed with you in more detail during your consultation.

Microdermabrasion is a gentle and non-invasive treatment. You may feel a light, scratchy sensation as the device moves across your skin, but it is not considered painful.

Your suitability for microdermabrasion will be assessed during your consultation with an expert dermal therapist. However, the following individuals are generally not suitable for the treatment:

  1.     Anyone with sunburn on the area to be treated, cold sores or cystic breakouts
  2.     Anyone with skin conditions such as rosacea or eczema/dermatitis.

iii.       Anyone with severe telangiectasia (visible broken capillaries) or redness.

  1.      Anyone who has had anti-ageing or soft tissue augmentation injections within the past 2 weeks or other types of skin or laser treatment within the past 2-4 weeks.
  2.     Anyone with a healing tattoo in the treatment area.
  3.     Anyone who regularly uses cortisone, Roaccutane or any other medication that causes skin thinning, excessive dryness or skin exfoliation

After your treatment, your skin may feel sensitive, slightly flushed and dry (similar to a mild sunburn), which is normal. You will receive personalised aftercare advice, which generally includes the following:

  1.     Avoid all exfoliating home care products such as scrubs,AHA’s, BHA’s, Vitamin A derivatives such as retinol, retinal, tretinoin, Retin A,  and Vitamin C for at least five days.
  2.     Use prescribed aftercare serums/creams and gentle cleansers for 3-5 days.

iii.      Avoid hot showers, spas, pools, saunas, or exercise for 24 hours.

  1.     Avoid direct sun exposure for a minimum of one week and use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ or 50+ daily.
  2.     Avoid waxing, threading, laser/IPL or other types of skin treatments on the treated areas for at least seven days (unless otherwise specifically directed by your dermal therapist)

The microdermabrasion procedure is available as an express (30-minute) or deluxe (45-minute) treatment. In addition to the treatment, there is a pre-treatment consultation, where your dermal therapist will explain the procedure, confirm your suitability, treatment options and answer any questions you may have. Additional add-ons, upgrades or treatments may increase your treatment time.

Microdermabrasion can be performed as a one-off skin refresh or occasionally as part of a broader skin treatment plan. For some clients, it may be suitable every 4–8 weeks, depending on individual skin needs and concerns.

During your complimentary consultation, your dermal therapist will assess your skin and recommend the most appropriate frequency or advise whether a different treatment type would better support your long-term skin goals.
