Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive exfoliation treatment that uses a handheld suction device with either micro-crystals or diamond tips to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells gently. This process helps to clear blocked pores and smooth the skin’s surface. While also stimulating blood flow, oxygenation and cell turnover
Microdermabrasion can improve product absorption and overall skin clarity by supporting the skin’s natural renewal cycle. This treatment is suitable for the face, neck, and décolletage.
Microdermabrasion can help improve the appearance of a range of skin concerns, including:
At Esteem Clinic, all microdermabrasion treatments are performed by experienced dermal therapists in a clinical setting. The procedure involves a mild to moderate exfoliating sensation, paired with gentle suction as the device passes over the skin. No numbing or anaesthetic is required.
Each session begins with a comprehensive consultation and skin assessment. Your dermal therapist will review your skin type, discuss your concerns, and determine whether microdermabrasion is a suitable option. Any questions will be addressed prior to treatment.
Clients are advised to avoid exfoliating treatments and active skincare products (e.g., acids or retinoids) for 3–5 days before the session. Microdermabrasion should not be performed on sunburnt skin, open wounds, or if you are currently taking medication that affects skin sensitivity or regeneration. Please inform your therapist if you have had any recent skin, laser, or injectable treatments within the last two weeks
Before beginning, the skin will be thoroughly cleansed to remove makeup, oil, and debris. The microdermabrasion device is then used in a controlled pattern across the skin. Sessions typically last 30 minutes (Express) or 45 minutes (Deluxe). Finishing products, including sun protection, are applied at the end of each treatment. A targeted mask may also be included for Deluxe treatments, based on your skin type and concerns.
The Results
Microdermabrasion is a low-impact treatment with no required downtime. Most people resume their normal routine immediately after the session. Some temporary redness may occur, but this typically resolves within a few hours.
Mild dryness or tightness can occur following exfoliation. In some cases, breakout-prone skin may experience a temporary increase in congestion as impurities are lifted.
Microdermabrasion is often recommended as a first-step treatment or as part of an ongoing skin maintenance plan. Results such as smoother skin and improved texture may be noticeable within a few days.

Microdermabrasion is one of the most accessible skin treatments available, making it a great entry point for those new to professional skin care. At Esteem Clinic, pricing starts at $67.
During your complimentary consultation, our team can recommend whether microdermabrasion is the right starting point for you or if a more advanced treatment may better suit your skin goals.
Like all skin treatments, microdermabrasion carries some potential risks and side effects. These can include:
iii. Increased sun sensitivity: Your skin may become more sensitive to sunlight, so it is important to use sun protection.
vii. Skin discolouration: Very rare, but it may occur, particularly in individuals with darker skin tones.
Microdermabrasion is a gentle and non-invasive treatment. You may feel a light, scratchy sensation as the device moves across your skin, but it is not considered painful.
Your suitability for microdermabrasion will be assessed during your consultation with an expert dermal therapist. However, the following individuals are generally not suitable for the treatment:
iii. Anyone with severe telangiectasia (visible broken capillaries) or redness.
After your treatment, your skin may feel sensitive, slightly flushed and dry (similar to a mild sunburn), which is normal. You will receive personalised aftercare advice, which generally includes the following:
iii. Avoid hot showers, spas, pools, saunas, or exercise for 24 hours.
The microdermabrasion procedure is available as an express (30-minute) or deluxe (45-minute) treatment. In addition to the treatment, there is a pre-treatment consultation, where your dermal therapist will explain the procedure, confirm your suitability, treatment options and answer any questions you may have. Additional add-ons, upgrades or treatments may increase your treatment time.
Microdermabrasion can be performed as a one-off skin refresh or occasionally as part of a broader skin treatment plan. For some clients, it may be suitable every 4–8 weeks, depending on individual skin needs and concerns.
During your complimentary consultation, your dermal therapist will assess your skin and recommend the most appropriate frequency or advise whether a different treatment type would better support your long-term skin goals.
