In the Spotlight
How Picosure laser tattoo removal works
Picosure laser tattoo removal is an effective picosecond aesthetic laser. It delivers ultra-short pulse bursts of energy to the skin, targeting tattoo pigments in various colours while avoiding damage to the surrounding skin.
Picosecond pulse width is 100 times shorter than nanosecond technology, enabling better photomechanical impact for improved tattoo pigment clearance with fewer treatments.
With a personalised treatment plan, we can map out how many treatments you will need, how long each treatment will take and what you can expect for your results.
Your consultation
For a successful treatment experience, we will offer you a complimentary consultation to discuss your goals and make a plan for personalised treatment. During your consultation, you can expect us to:
Assess your tattoo
During this part of the consultation, we will carefully examine your tattoo. We’ll evaluate factors such as the tattoo’s size, colour, location, and complexity. This assessment helps us to determine the feasibility and expected outcome of the laser tattoo removal process.
Discuss your treatment goals
We will need to understand your treatment goals and expectations. To ensure this, we will inquire about your reasons for wanting tattoo removal and what you hope to achieve through the procedure. It’s important to provide honest and straightforward answers so that we can tailor the treatment plan to meet your specific needs.
Discuss your results
Based on the assessment of your tattoo and your treatment goals, we’ll discuss the potential results you can expect from laser tattoo removal. We will explain the realistic outcomes, including the possibility of complete tattoo removal or significant fading. We can also discuss any limitations or challenges affecting the final results, such as the colours or types of ink used in your tattoo.
Outline your treatment costs
During the consultation, we will also provide you with a clear understanding of your personalised treatment costs. We will go through the pricing structure, which may depend on factors like the size of the tattoo, the number of sessions required, and any additional services or aftercare products that may be recommended.
Laser tattoo removal cost in Gold Coast
Regarding treatment costs for tattoo removal with Picosure laser, your total costs can be influenced by some personalised treatment factors. These can include:
Size of the tattoo
The size of your tattoo can impact treatment time and costs.
Area of the tattoo
Your specific treatment area may influence treatment time and costs.
Number of tattoos or treatment areas
You may be able to remove more than one tattoo in multiple areas during one session. If so, this will be added to your costs; however, treating multiple tattoos simultaneously can reduce costs in the long run.
Treatment goals
If your goal is complete removal, you may need more treatment sessions to achieve this, which can add to your overall costs.
Essentially, your personalised treatment plan will determine the costs of your treatment. To discuss the details of your treatment plan, you must schedule a consultation at our Main Beach Clinic. During your consultation, you will have your tattoo assessed and discuss your treatment goals so that we can put together a plan designed to achieve your ideal results.
Post-treatment care
Following treatment, an antibacterial ointment and dressing will be applied to cover the area treated. Occasionally, there will be pinpoint bleeding following the treatment, and swelling can be expected straight after treatment. You may notice bruising, tenderness or scabbing in the treated area, but this usually settles within two weeks.
You will be advised on what steps to follow for sufficient post-treatment care. You may have different instructions based on the area being treated, the size of the tattoo and your skin type. Aftercare instructions can typically include the following:
- Leave dressings in place for 24 hours
- After removing dressings, ensure that the area is kept clean
- You may apply another dressing, if necessary, to protect from additional trauma (including the rubbing of clothing) or dirt
- AHA or fruit acid products are best avoided for one week, as they may cause discomfort
- Apply 50+ sunscreen when in the sun
If you need further treatments, these will be performed six to eight weeks post-first session.

Risks and complications
Laser tattoo removal carries risks and potential complications like any medical procedure. You will discuss these risks in further detail during your consultation, plus how to minimise these risks. Some of the possible risks and complications associated with laser tattoo removal include:
- Pain and discomfort: Laser tattoo removal can cause pain and discomfort during and after the procedure. The sensation is often described as similar to being snapped with a rubber band on the skin.
- Skin discolouration: One possible complication is temporary or permanent changes in skin pigmentation. Some individuals may experience hypopigmentation (skin lightening) or hyperpigmentation (darkening) in the treated area.
- Scarring: While rare, scarring can occur due to laser tattoo removal. Scarring is more likely if proper aftercare instructions are not followed, or the treated area becomes infected.
- Infection: There is a risk of infection associated with laser tattoo removal, mainly if the treated area is not kept clean and protected. It is essential to follow the post-treatment care instructions provided.
- Allergic reactions: Some individuals may experience an allergic reaction to the tattoo ink or the laser treatment itself. This can manifest as itching, redness, swelling, or a rash. Allergic reactions should be reported immediately.
- Textural changes: Laser tattoo removal may result in skin texture changes, such as raised or depressed areas. These changes are usually temporary but can be permanent in rare cases.
- Blistering and crusting: It is typical for the treated area to develop blisters or crusts following laser tattoo removal. These are part of the normal healing process and typically resolve independently.
